Illegal immigration in Ireland

This programme will enable eligible applicants to remain and reside in the country and to regularise their residency status. The scheme was developed following a consultation process with key stakeholders including NGOs that work directly with people and families who are in vulnerable immigration-related circumstances.

The programme is available to those who live in Ireland undocumented, for example, they arrived illegally or their permit has expired or was revoked many years ago.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must prove that they have been living in the country for more than 4 years without the appropriate immigration permits and documents, or for 3 years if they have dependent children at the time of application.

The cost of the application is 700 euros per family, including children under 23 years old if they live with their parents. The cost of an individual application is 550 euros.

Those who receive a permit will also have to pay an additional € 300 for registration. Successful applicants will receive a legal residence permit in Ireland for a period of 2 years initially with the option of renewal.

Applicants must meet standards regarding good character and criminal record/behaviour and not pose a threat to the State. Having convictions for minor offences will not, of itself, result in disqualification.

Successful candidates will receive permission not only to legally stay in the country but also to work. The years spent under this permit are reckonable for the purposes of pursuing citizenship.

The programme will open in January 2022 and will be available for 6 months.
