Many Australian universities consistently rank well in the world rankings. The relatively high cost of education is sometimes a barrier to starting your study path in Australia. However, not everyone knows that the Australian government and many universities provide scholarships that fully or partially cover the costs of studies.
Scholarship Programs
The Australian government provides three programs. Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) is available to residents of Asia and the Middle East Islands.
In 2019, a pilot program was adopted to support students who study and live in Regional Australia. Payouts are up to AU $ 15,000 per year. The program is valid for four years, from 2020 to 2024.
To participate in this program, a student must be enrolled in one of the regional campuses of the following universities:
- University of Tasmania
- University of Southern QLD
- University of South Australia
- Southern Cross University
- Deakin University
- Charles Darwin University
- Central QLD University
It is worth noting that this program extends not only to universities but also to vocational education (VET) at TAFE institutes and colleges. However, it is only available to local students there.
The next is the Research Training Program (RTP) – Australian Scholarships for postgraduate students studying for a research degree. By 2021, all Australian universities participate in this program.
Payouts can range from AU $ 28,000 to 44,000.
In addition to Government programs, many universities and institutes provide their own support programs based on student academic performance. In case of good performance, you may be given a substantial discount on tuition, which fully or partially covers tuition costs.
There are also international programs to support international students. For example, the International Water Center Scholarship is available for the Master’s Degree in Integrated Water Resources Management at the University of Queensland.
Despite the high cost of education, the Australian government and universities provide significant material support to international students, especially those who show consistently high academic performance.
