Purpose of visit to New Zealand

01

Professional Immigration

Skilled immigration is available for individuals up to and including 55 years of age. The main requirement for obtaining residency is either current employment in New Zealand or a job offer from a New Zealand employer accredited to hire foreign workers.

Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer direct assistance with job placement. And without a job in New Zealand, the program is not available. However, there are ways to improve your chances.

  • Plan A. One option is to find a job while still outside of New Zealand. To be honest, this is extremely difficult, although some people do succeed. If you manage to secure a job offer, our lawyers will be happy to assist with obtaining a work visa for the main applicant and partner visas for family members. Below, you’ll find a link to resources on how to try finding a suitable employer
  • Plan B. To slightly increase your chances of finding a job, you can come to New Zealand for an English language course (if applicable) lasting from 2 to 48 weeks and look for work while you’re here. Courses typically cost between 200 and 400 NZD per week. In addition, to obtain a visa, you’ll need to show proof of funds — approximately 400 NZD per week for living expenses. Under certain conditions, English language students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week. Family members may be eligible for visitor visas, although approval is not guaranteed.
  • Plan C. To significantly improve your chances of success, consider enrolling in a professional study program lasting from 1 to 3 years in a field of your interest. Upon completing the program, you are eligible to apply for a post-study work visa, which greatly simplifies the process of finding a job. There are also options for bringing your whole family with you. Studying at higher education levels gives the student’s partner the right to work, while children can attend school for free. Professional education typically costs between 20,000 and 40,000 NZD per year. Additionally, to obtain a visa, you’ll need to show another 20,000 NZD per year for living expenses.

This type of visa significantly increases your chances of finding employment.

School Education for Children

New Zealand offers excellent schools where children feel safe and comfortable. It’s a great way to broaden their horizons, learn English, and receive an education that can become the foundation for their future career. You can choose to study by semesters or by full academic years — whichever suits you best. Children in New Zealand start school at the age of five. A parent accompanying a school-aged child can apply for a guardian visa for the duration of their studies. Starting from the age of 12, parental accompaniment is no longer required — the child can live with a local host family or in a boarding school.

The average cost of schooling is between 15,000 and 25,000 New Zealand dollars per year. In addition, to obtain a visa, you’ll also need to show proof of 20,000 New Zealand dollars per year to cover living expenses.

Book a consultation, and we’ll help you calculate the costs, understand the process, and find the most suitable study options for your child.

Business-Immigration

This is a fairly complex visa category with many possible scenarios. Here are the most basic requirements for applicants in this category:

  • You must be ready to invest at least 100,000 NZD into purchasing an existing business or starting a new one in New Zealand. Based on our clients’ experience, the total budget including additional costs typically starts from 300,000 NZD.
  • You must be actively involved in managing the business you acquire or establish.
  • You must be able to prove the legal origin of your funds.
  • You must be prepared to develop a detailed business plan for the growth of your enterprise in New Zealand.

Business visa applications are assessed using a points-based system. Your total score will depend on your previous business experience and age, the number of jobs you plan to create in New Zealand, the industry sector, export potential, and the uniqueness of your product or service.

Immigration for Investors

This type of immigration is available to individuals willing to invest between NZD 5 million and NZD 15 million into assets, securities, funds, and other investment instruments within New Zealand.

The immigration authority classifies all investments into four categories. The highest-ranked are direct investments in companies, such as purchasing shares in existing businesses — in this case, an investment of NZD 5 million is sufficient. Investments in publicly listed securities or charitable funds are considered lower in value, so to qualify through these instruments, you’ll need to invest NZD 15 million. Direct real estate purchases are not considered acceptable investments for visa purposes. However, acquiring shares in companies or funds that manage real estate assets does count toward the required investment.
