The Tongarewa Scholarship is a partial fee-based scholarship that will be put towards your tuition fees for one year of study.
The number of scholarships is limited:
- Ten scholarships of NZ$10,000 will be available to both undergraduate and postgraduate recipients;
- Nine scholarships of NZ$5,000 will be available to postgraduate recipients only.
Recipients of the Scholarship are also guaranteed an offer of a place in one of the University’s Halls of Residence if they apply for accommodation as well.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Scholarship, you should enrol on the first year of an undergraduate degree or a postgraduate degree at Victoria University of Wellington.
You are not eligible for this scholarship if you:
- completed your secondary education at a New Zealand school
- completed the English Proficiency Programme or Foundation Studies Programme
- are a Study Abroad or Twinning student from one of the overseas partner universities
- are in your second year of study in the same degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington
Documents required for the Scholarship
To apply for the Scholarship, you should provide:
- A personal statement of up to 500 words outlining why you wish to study at Victoria University of Wellington, your academic goals and why you merit the Scholarship. You should also include any leadership positions and details of your involvement in your school or community.
- Full transcripts and other documentation relevant to the qualification type.
- An offer of place from Victoria University of Wellington (conditional or unconditional).
Application Deadline
Apply by 1 September 2021 4.30 pm to start your studies in November 2021.
Apply by 30 November 2021 4.30 pm to start in February 2022.
