Offshore students studying online
International students who are outside of New Zealand and are studying a University of Waikato programme online will receive a 20% fee discount on the paper(s) they enrol in. Students will also receive a NZ$ 2,000 travel grant when borders open and they can transfer to onshore study.
Students do not need to apply for this fee discount; it will be automatically applied to their tuition fees.
New onshore students
New international students to the University of Waikato (both Hamilton and Tauranga campus) in 2021 and 2022 will receive a 20% fee discount towards their first academic year of tuition fees (to a maximum of 120 points).

University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship
This Scholarship has a value of up to NZ$ 20,000 for undergraduate students and up to NZ$ 15,000 for postgraduate students.
Eligibility criteria:
- Enrol for the first time into a University of Waikato undergraduate or postgraduate programme
- Have a minimum GPA equivalency of B+
- Be not a school leaver
- Be currently in New Zealand
Students can apply for this scholarship at any time. Successful students will not be eligible for any other University of Waikato discount or scholarship.
University of Waikato International Entrance Scholarship for school leavers
This scholarship is for international students who have met direct entry from a New Zealand high school or foundation studies provider in the year prior to enrolling in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato.
Students who achieve University Entrance in NCEA (or equivalent) will receive the International Entrance Scholarship which is valued a NZ$ 10,000 and will be applied as a discount to their first year of study.
In addition to this, students who achieve NCEA level 3 with merit endorsement, or equivalent, will receive an additional NZ$ 5,000 in their second year.
Students who have achieved NCEA level 3 with excellence endorsement, or equivalent, will also receive an additional NZ$ 5,000 in their third year.
Students do not need to apply for this scholarship; it will be automatically applied to their tuition fees. Successful students will not be eligible for any other University of Waikato discount or scholarship.
