  • Coordinate the provision of services on a construction site for both short-term and long-term projects;

  • Manage a construction project, types of contracts, and project delivery methods, applying appropriate health and safety principles in the construction industry.

Quantity Surveying Specialisation

This pathway equips students with knowledge and skills in budgeting, costing, cost control, and cash flow monitoring throughout a construction project. Upon completion, graduates will be able to work as consultants, quantity surveyors, contract administrators, and contract managers.

After completing the programme all graduates will be able to:

  • Engage and involve stakeholders—particularly contractors—throughout the course of a project, and interact with them in line with contractual obligations and industry best practices;
  • Apply relevant New Zealand legislation to construction activities;
  • Assess and select materials and finishes for construction projects, taking into account sustainability and environmental impact;
  • Choose materials and finishes for a construction project based on aesthetic appeal, initial and ongoing costs, lifecycle assessment considerations (such as material performance, availability, and environmental impact), and the potential for reuse, recycling, or disposal at the end of the material’s life;
  • Install foundations and substructures; passive fire protection systems; structural frameworks for specific projects; and building envelopes and interiors for medium and large buildings;
