Sofia Moreira about her PhD studies

Sofia began her PhD in Biochemistry online at the University of Otago at the beginning of 2021, and we supported her during this process. Let’s get to know a bit more about her story.

My choice to study in New Zealand began in 2019 when I was in the final semester of my master’s degree.

I received an email from my university promoting a New Zealand government scholarship for a full PhD. Since I wanted to do my PhD abroad, I took the opportunity and applied, even though I didn’t know much about New Zealand. However, I gradually fell in love with the country and realized it was where I wanted to live. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the scholarship, but I decided not to give up on this goal. And even under pressure from friends and family, I chose not to do my PhD in Brazil.

After finishing my master’s degree, I was hired for a research project and saw it as a chance to save money to pursue my PhD abroad.

My contract was for 2,5 years, but it was canceled due to the pandemic. Unemployed, but determined to pursue my dreams, I began looking for a PhD supervisor on the websites of New Zealand universities. I didn’t have a preference for a city. My search was based on my field of expertise. During this time, I started studying hard for the TOEFL and watching a lot of videos about New Zealand. That’s when I discovered Kiwi Education. I had already sent emails with my CV and transcripts to three professors in New Zealand, but none of them had replied.

About Kiwi Education

Then I asked Kiwi Education for help. And they reached out to the Head of the Biochemistry Department at the University of Otago, because shortly after, a professor responded and scheduled an interview with me. This professor agreed to be my supervisor, and with Kiwi Education’s help, I submitted my documents to the university. I was accepted and officially began my studies remotely in January 2021.

Kiwi Education is amazing! Great service, excellent support, and very useful and interesting content on Instagram and the website.

I am forever grateful to the entire team for their support and assistance during the PhD enrollment process. I can’t think of any downside to their services. In my opinion, the strengths of Kiwi Education are: efficiency in resolving issues and questions, clear and thorough answers, excellent customer service, and high-quality, helpful content on Instagram and their website. The Kiwi Education support team reached out to me when I started my PhD remotely from Brazil (Feb 2021). I really like the service. They’ve been following up on my activities and are always available if I have any questions. I highly recommend Kiwi Education to anyone who wants to live or study in New Zealand. Success guaranteed!

Final thoughts

Finally, I leave a piece of advice for anyone planning an exchange: have the courage to take risks and understand that things may not always go the way we want. It’s important to plan financially, know the requirements for your goals, and seek help from those who know the process well.

Thank you so much, Sofia, for believing in and trusting our services. It’s a pleasure to have you on our team. Your determination and willpower are an inspiration to all of us. Don’t give up, and keep counting on us!
